Reminder: Try Writing your Resolution Paper

Hello there, Our October holidays have begun, and so I have to encourage you to take the necessary time to draft your resolution paper . The key idea? Once you have the draft you email me a copy so I can see if you are on the right tracks. Remember, I have already written one blog entry on resolution papers at: http://pontoncymun.blogspot.fr/2017/10/resolution-paper.html The simple way to do it is to : a) copy and paste the following details onto a word document TWICE (one for each issue) b) save your 2 documents by their issue name c) fill in the following blanks! d) note - follow the italics by details of the main problems                follow the bold number 1) 2) 3)  by solutions e) remember you are NOT meant to write complete sentences, only clauses (see last blog entry ) f) feel free to change the order of the italicized words and then the bold words.. and you can use different words , just see the linked website for i...

New Schedule for Cheques

Dear MUN delegates, As most of you are aware, I was unable to collect your 80 euro cheques last  Friday 20 October as the Rectorat had not yet had time to validate the voyage. There is nothing to worry about, in so far as that validation process will take place over the holidays (and all we need to buy are 16 train tickets to Nancy.. and the SNCF has reassured me this poses no problem). I will pay our inscription fees on November 7th. The New Plan then? Bring your 80 euro cheques to 2AP at midday, not at 7:45am. I need to sing the Marseillaise  at the Prefecture at 8.30am and so my timing is a little short ;-) I wouldn't want to be late, now would I ??  :-) More seriously, I need you to bring your 80euro cheques to room 07 at 12h (and, première students, if possible stay for the hour). I will then give you a package of documents for your parents to sign before we leave THE FOLLOWING MONDAY 13 NOVEMBER!! The Details? Monday 7 November, 2017 ...
Check out NCYMUN on Facebook and Snapchat! They are busy uploading videos and photos :-)

Important: 80 euro cheques for Friday

Dear MUN delegates, It is now time for me to remind you that I need to collect your  80 euro cheques  this coming  Friday 20 October from 7:45-9am . I will be in  room 111  and you have to come and meet me there, with your cheque. Why? Following school regulations, I cannot collect money for a trip until 15 days after the Conseil d'administration (CA). Consequently, the first moment I can collect your cheques is this Friday 20 October. Can you see the problem? I need the cheques by 9am so that our school accountant can deposit the cheques before the holidays (our school accountant will leave the school by midday on Friday and before she leaves I need to give her all 15 cheques and organise the purchase of the train tickets. She will have a million things to do that morning and so I need to arrive at her office at 9am with all the cheques). Note: If you have an 8am class, please come before class . Dropping off the cheque will only t...

Resolution Paper

Resolution Papers Over the next few weeks, I will encourage you to write a resolution paper for each of your topics. You do NOT need to write a perfect paper... but you will use this document during Lobbying and any speech-making that you might do. Don't panic - and do email me if you need help! The key is that you have to use the words italics to open each clause. This makes the paper quite easy to write :-) Why should I prepare a resolution draft and what exactly is it? -->  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-Elye6F8sY What are the different steps? -->  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyoH6gZvgpg Example of Language (the information in bold and italics is essential.. but also makes creating this paper much simpler). Bearing in mind  that the « Rome Statute »  treaty was established on July, 17, 1998 by the International Criminal Court establishing four core international crimes: genocide, crimes ag...

The concept of MUN

The Best delegate MUN site is.. the BEST! The wikipedia page! Our last MUNISS blog

Position Papers

In theory before an MUN, you should write 2 papers: 1. A position paper (explaining your country's position on issue and listing issues to be addressed) 2. A resolution paper (listing (re)solutions to the issues to be addressed). As we have so little time before NCYMUN, we will only create basic resolution papers. As you will start by 'lobbying,' your task will be to show your list of resolutions to friendly countries (in an informal setting) and ask them to vote your favour. EG: I think Pontonniers should have its own canteen, don't you? If you do, vote for me when I read our my (re)solution. Although you will NOT write a Position Paper , it might be interesting to look at the format. Position Papers This is a  blog entry  that I created for LMUNA that will help YOU! The  MUN Guide  should become your new bible ! The  Youtube video  is also very useful. The key is NOT to panic. a) I can help you. b) There is a formula that you c...

Why not take 5 minutes and visit last year's blog (FEB 2017)?

Sustainable Resources: Neema and Arber

Sustainable Resources - Kosovo : Neema - Norway : Arber Clearly, this topic is an issue for the UN! The problem is that limited access to resources can also create conflict ... Water scarcity is, for example, a key problem. A positive ' we are lucky ' approach Some ' sustainable ' goals 1. Insuring the moderate use of scarce resources 2. Accessing a fossil fuel free planet Can the world survive without fossil fuels? Some UN statistics The key for both is to look at UN Sustainable Development Goal # 12 Neema, now look at the UN Fact sheet on Kosovo and Sustainable Development. Arber, now look at the  UN Fact sheet on Norway and Sustainable Development.

Innovation and Progress: Elise and Paule

Innovation and Progress: - Mongolia : Elise  - Haiti : Paule ( SDG - Sustainable Development Goals ) I think this committee will explore ' Sustainable Development Goal 9  and Goal 16. I find 3 topics a lot for a 2 day conference, and so don't waste hours preparing each topic in detail. Instead have an overall sense of each topic in relation to your country. 1 Managing the innovation of new machines and weapons in order to keep world peace UN on Weapons of Mass Destruction Goal 16 Targets 2 Promoting sustainable technologies Science and Technology as Sustainable and Development Goals . 3 Raising awareness of future generations by introducing them to new technologies and to sustainability Elise Mongolia and their SDGs Mongolia's Sustainable Development Goals Paule Haiti and their SDGs The reality of Haiti's poverty. ..

Ecosoc: Sofia and Mayumi

EcoSoc EcoSoc ( this page will tell you about your committee ) I think each of these 3 items are included in the UN's 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). To be honest, this is the least clear committee for the moment. This is a starting point but don't waste precious hours preparing yet.. wait to hear from your NCYMUN partners. 1 supporting positive economic, social and environmental links between urban, peri-urban and rural areas 2 job market: finding the balance between global economy and sustainable development 3 implementing economic policies to promote sustainable tourism Basically the UN recognizes : The resolution on  ecotourism , inter alia, recognized that the development of ecotourism, within the framework of sustainable tourism, can have a positive impact on income generation, job creation, education, and thus on the fight against poverty and hunger, and can contribute directly to achieving the internationally agreed development goal...

Ecofin (Lena and Emerane)

Ecofin  (also known as the Second Committee of the General Assembly (GA 2). -I vory Coast :  Lena  - Bangladesh : Emerane  EcoFin Day One ● working on partnership to establish Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) This is a very large topic, as there are 16 Sustainable Development Goals. My suggestion would be to get to know basic information about each of the 16 goals, and then identify which SDGs might be most important to your country. Smile, the UN has created this page for the Ivory Coast + SDGs .. Smile, here is a document Bangladesh created for UN on SDGs .. Quite cheekily, they added a 17th Goal: work on creating global partnerships ... so I would surf this page and get comfortable with the concept. EcoFin DAY TWO ● increasing the access of small scale industries to integrate them into global markets  (kind of SDG 9) The above document is full of statistics and detailed information. I would only keep note of th...

Security Council (Jean-Mark and Abigael)

Security council : -The USA: Jean Mark  -Russia: Abigael DAY ONE ● Preventing illicit financial and arms flows to combat all forms of organised crimes. The USA America's position as seen by NY Times . An interesting document on firearms.  Russia Russia's position  as given during a recent UN Speech. A more ' behind the scenes ' perspective (although I don't know if this website is reliable). Interestingly, an article on Ukrainian stockpiling Day TWO ● The question of ISIS territories in Iraq and Syria Russia An American perspective of Russia's involvement in Syria.. Wikipedia's perspective of Russia's involvement in Syria  Wikipedia's perspective  of Russia's involvement in Iraq. The USA Timeline approac h to US involvement in Iraq CBS News perspective of US vs ISIS

Historical security council (Anouk and Marie)

Image
Historical security council : Pauline is the chair for this committee... and so DO ask her if you have any questions. Srebrenica massacre This is a very sombre topic, I'm sorry. The UN largely failed to protect the population... Your task will be to evaluate what went wrong from the UN's perspective and to try and find ways to stop it from happening again. Anouk / PR China 's position on  Srebrenica  is not clear but see article below. Marie / Botswana's position on  Srebrenica Worth noting, Russia is not in favour of protecting the memory of Srebrenica... The following information is taken from this page : China and UN Peacekeeping Operations Since the 1990s, China has transformed from a staunch opponent of peacekeeping oper- ations to one of the main troop-contributing countries. In January 2013, China deployed over 1,868 personnel under the ag of the United Nations (United Nations Peacekeeping 2013a). In terms of...
